Democrats Unwillingness to Fund the Government Will Hurt Thousands of Kansans
Washington – On Friday, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), released the following statement on day 24 of the government shutdown, now the longest full government shutdown, raising concerns about the impending funding cuts and looming impacts on thousands of everyday Kansans that will result if Democrats remain unwilling to fulfill their duty of funding the government.
“It is past time for Democrats to put an end to their political heist and reopen the government,” said Senator Marshall. “Programs that are essential to families, farmers, and seniors are set to expire on November 1st, and the reality of their games will strip everyday needs from hardworking people. If Democrats want to discuss the flawed healthcare system that they created, we will – once they reopen the government. But Kansans’ livelihoods shouldn’t be used as a bargaining chip.”
On Oct. 31, U.S. military troops will miss a paycheck.
On Nov. 1, the following federal programs will run out of federal funding:
- WIC
- SNAP
- Federal education impact aid
- Military tuition assistance
- Head Start
- All federal employees will have missed at least one full paycheck
Several public-facing programs have already run out of funds, impacting Kansans of all ages across the state:
- Some FSA programs and services
- USDA Rural Development programs and payments to local contractors
- Federal Flood Insurance Program
- Medicare telehealth
- Acute Care Hospital Care at Home
- National Parks
- Eisenhower Presidential Library
