Sen. Marshall Demands Immediate Passage of Ukraine Aid

(Washington, D.C., March 10, 2022) – Today, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. spoke on the Senate floor, urging his Democrat colleagues to pass legislation providing Ukraine with life-saving aid to combat Russia’s unprovoked invasion immediately. Last week, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked Congress for this assistance. Yet instead of acting swiftly to help the Ukrainian people, Senate Democrats are choosing to use this crisis as a political weapon by bringing it into the fold of their radical $1.5 trillion spending agenda that would wreak havoc on the U.S. economy. That legislation is unlikely to be signed by the President for several days. As part of his speech calling on Congress to expedite delivery of aid by passing it as a stand-alone bill, Senator Marshall said in part,

“This President has repeatedly been late to act. His failure to show strength and take proactive maneuvers empowered a war criminal to move to reclaim one of the most prized former Soviet Republics… Cowardice is contagious. Democrats in Congress have now taken a page out of our President’s playbook by settling on a process that will deliver this most recent round of military aid to the Ukrainians more than a week after President Zelenskyy laid out his country’s needs to Members of Congress… Instead of a stand-alone bill or attaching this invaluable relief to the short term CR that will be signed to keep the government open while the massive 3,000 page bill is enrolled and sent to the President, they’re insisting that it remain part of the omnibus in order to sweeten a sour batch of grapes, once again delaying life-saving aid by many days.”
