Sen. Marshall Introduces Bill To Stop Funding Chinese Research

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. introduced legislation to prohibit federal government agencies from funding research in China or any entity owned by China. The Stop Funding Our Adversaries Actwould ensure that the United States is not funding the People’s Republic of China or the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) directly or indirectly through Federal research, grants, contracts, subgrants, or cooperative agreements. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) is co-sponsoring this legislation.

“The Chinese Communist Party does not have our best interest in mind; the past three years prove as much,”Senator Marshall said. “As we uncover the origins of Covid-19, all roads lead to a lab in Wuhan, China, and when we dig even deeper, there’s evidence that this risky research in China was being done with U.S. taxpayer funds. This is unacceptable. We have no handle around the research being done in Communist China, and it’s in the best interest of our national security to immediately end all U.S. taxpayer’s funds from financing any research in China.”

“Taxpayer dollars should not benefit, directly or indirectly, research conducted by the Chinese Communist Party. The U.S. should not be financing a genocidal regime which exploits our nation for its economic and military development.” Senator Rubio said.

“One pandemic is enough. American taxpayers should not be footing the bill for research in adversarial countries, especially when the Chinese Communist Party has proven that they cannot be trusted time and again.” Senator Braun said.

U.S. Representative Brandon Williams led the Stop Funding Our Adversaries Act in the House of Representatives.

“China is our primary adversary, and we must stop funding their research activities. With growing tension between our country and the Communist Chinese regime, there are no good reasons to support funding these research initiatives or cooperative agreements. This is a huge win for American taxpayers—this bill ends funding of research by the Chinese government or any Chinese Communist Party agencies,” Congressman Brandon Williams said. “The stakes on the global stage have never been higher, therefore we should focus our resources at home. Energy prices are at record highs, inflation continues to steal from our quality of life, our Southern border is in crisis, violent criminals are being released onto our streets, and opioids from China are killing our youth at historic rates, stealing our children’s future. Funding our adversaries must stop, now!”
