Senator Marshall’s remarks as delivered:

“Mr. Chairman, I’m so proud to introduce Brenda Hicks from Southwestern College, the mighty builders. Welcome, Mrs. Hicks. We’re glad you’re here. Thanks for making the trip all the way from Winfield, Kansas, which is where my mother-in-law grew up, and her family, so lots of connections to Winfield, Kansas. Mrs. Hicks serves as the Associate Vice President for Student Financial Planning and Director of Financial Aid at Southwestern, and she has served as the national chair for the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and remains involved with this organization.

“When you walk on a Southwest campus, you meet students who are first-generation students, student athletes, and young parents working to build a better life regardless of the situation.

“Mrs. Hicks has helped guide thousands of those students through one of the most stressful and important decisions they’ll ever make with her on-the-ground experience running a financial aid office. Mrs. Hicks’ perspective will bring light to what students are seeing and dealing with each year as they make one of the most important decisions of their lives.

“Our Big, Beautiful Bill made transformational reforms to student loans, and now we have an opportunity to ensure financial aid looks and works best for its intended groups, the students. Mrs. Hicks, thank you for being here and bringing a much-needed Kansas perspective to DC. We look forward to discussing this important issue more with you.”
