Washington – On Monday, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), joined Elizabeth MacDonald on Fox Business’s The Evening Edit to discuss 20 days of the Schumer shutdown – the longest full government shutdown in history, and the work Republicans have done to find solutions to keep key programs funded and our troops with pay.

On Democrats caving to the far left:

“Liz, they’re not just caving. They are bowing down to the far left. These far-left Marxists have absolutely hijacked their party. Speaker Johnson nailed it right there. Isn’t it wonderful we live in a free country where we can protest, where we can state or speak our mind, all those types of things. But this far left still is in denial. They still are going through anger and denial, stages of grief that they lost the election. Look to the victor belongs the spoils. President Trump is implementing his policy plans back home. People are celebrating. The borders are safe. Their families are safer. The cost of gasoline is down to about two and a half dollars a gallon. Grocery prices are stabilized. Regulations rolling back. Overall, it’s been a very, very successful nine months with President Trump.”

On the goals of the Republican party:

“Well, again, let’s go back to our goals. The goals of the Republican Party are to open the government but also have responsible spending. The biggest issue that our that our grandchildren are going to face is this national debt. My people, I’m closest to back home, have said, hang in there, work towards a balanced budget. And again, they’re just so grateful that President Trump is out there gaining peace in the Middle East, working to find peace in Ukraine. They’re grateful that President Trump is stopping these drug lords trying to smuggle drugs in and kill her children as well. So, people are behind President Trump again. 97% of rural counties voted for President Trump. 77 million people voted for him. He’s doing what he said he was going to do, and the left has lost their mind over the whole ordeal.”

On whether Democrats will vote to open the government this week:

“Gosh. Liz, I have no idea. I sure hope they do. We’re willing to talk. If they’ll reopen the government. I’m very willing to sit here and try to solve the huge problems of Obamacare. Those premiums are going up 20% there’s $25 billions of fraud, so many things not working with the Affordable Care Act, but we got to get the government open.”
