Sen. Marshall Announces Funding to Build New Elementary School on Fort Riley

(Washington, D.C., April 13, 2021) – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall issued the following statement today after the Department of Defense awarded $24,387,200 in funding to the Geary County Unified School District 475 to build a new facility to house Jefferson Elementary School on Fort Riley, Kansas.

“The children of our nation’s service members deserve a quality education in a safe environment,” said Senator Marshall. “I applaud the Department of Defense for taking action to address the educational needs of elementary school-aged children at Fort Riley, and rejoice in knowing this new learning facility will lead to brighter futures ahead for the children in this vital community.”

Background:
Upon completion, the school will serve up to 390 students Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade and address capacity and facility condition deficiencies that placed Jefferson Elementary School as the 38th school on the 2011 Deputy Secretary of Defense “Public Schools on Military Installations Priority List.” Funding for this grant is provided under the Department’s Public Schools on Military Installations Program.
