Sen. Marshall Statement on Biggest Inflation Surge Since 1981

(Washington, D.C., April 12, 2022) – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor announced the Consumer Price Index (CPI) surged 8.5% from a year ago, marking the highest inflation rate since 1981.

“Out-of-control spending and a radical energy agenda dictated by the White House are leading to rampant inflation that shows no signs of stopping. The CPI numbers released this morning make clear this Administration’s policies continue to fail Kansans from every corner of our state. An 8.5% year-over-year price increase hasn’t been seen in decades but yet President Biden continues to blame everyone but himself,” said Senator Marshall. “Pre-COVID, we had the greatest economy in my lifetime, that came about because we lowered people’s taxes, we lowered regulations, and we lowered energy prices. It’s past time this Administration wakes up and stops the war on working class Americans, halts their out-of-control tax and spend mentality, and unleashes American energy independence.”
