On whether Senator Marshall would be in favor of a stock trading ban for Congress:
“Stu, absolutely. I’ve vocally been in favor of that for some time. We’ve seen Speaker Pelosi abuse the issue. I’m all in favor of it. But really, the next step to getting that done is opening the government. That’s the big obstacle, is that Democrats have voted 11 times now to shut the government down and specifically voted to not fund the military.”
On how far that stock trading ban should go:
“Stu, I’m in favor of multiple options like that. Basically, we put all of our money into some funds where I don’t choose the stocks. It’s been pretty seamless for me to do that. I think again, we have to also be focused on not just the Member of Congress, but also their spouses, extended family as well. I think those are first steps.”
On Senate Republicans meeting with President Trump at the White House:
“No, absolutely not. The purpose of this meeting, I would call it team building. The President has this gift of hospitality. He’s very much into relationship building. We text him, we call him on a regular basis. I think what I hear from folks back home is they’re concerned about the fiscal insanity in Washington, DC. We’re not going to let Democrats add 1.5 trillion dollars to our national debt. So, I think this is a meaning for us to stick together, to stick to our guns, so to speak, and insist that the Democrats walk across the aisle just like the 50 times Chuck Schumer has done in the last decade to keep the government open.”
On whether or not any Senate Republicans may back down:
“I sure have not seen them, or heard of them, not one bit. I think there are those of us who certainly want to fix healthcare. Look, the Affordable Care Act is very broken, it’s not affordable. The premiums are going up 20%. People have $5,000 deductibles. There’s $50 billion of fraud. So, we want to fix that, but not until we get the government open.”
