Senator Marshall Delivers Remarks on the Senate Floor

Washington – On Thursday,U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), delivered remarks on the floor of the U.S. Senate in support of his amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the One Flag for All Act, legislation that prohibits any flag other than the American flag from being flown, draped, or displayed on federal buildings, with certain exceptions.

Senator Marshall’s full speech as delivered:

“Madam President, the American flag represents something deeply personal to most of us in this room. Someone from every generation of my family, going back to the Civil War, has served under one flag: the American flag. It’s more than stars and stripes. This one flag is a symbol of sacrifice, of freedom, and unity.

“Every time we place our hands over our hearts, we’re reminded that we’re one nation under God. We’re not a patchwork of ideologies competing for a space on a flagpole. No flag that divides or politicizes should ever be flown on a federal building. This is about respect. It’s about unity and putting America first, standing together under one flag: the stars and stripes. And that’s why I urge my colleagues to support our amendment, ensuring only the American flag is flown on federal buildings.”

Background:

  • Senator Marshall first introduced this legislation in 2023, following the Biden Administration’s breach of the U.S. Flag Code by centering a Pride flag between two American flags on the White House.
